WOMEN’S HEALTH  with Dr Charlotte Clarke.

The Condition

Many women experience heavy, painful, or irregular periods at some point in their lives. Because these symptoms are so common, they are often dismissed as “just part of being a woman” and painful or disruptive periods are often ignored and put up with.

The Effects

Heavy or painful periods can be caused by a number of underlying conditions, such as fibroids, endometriosis, adenomyosis, thyroid issues, or hormonal imbalances. Even when there is no medical condition present, the impact on quality of life can be considerable and it doesn’t need to be like this.

The Solution

Talking to a GP is a proactive step toward understanding what’s normal, what’s not, and what can be done to help.

We can offer a range of investigations and management options, including blood tests to check for iron deficiency, ultrasounds to assess the pelvis or referrals to specialist services. Management options can range from simple pain-relief strategies and hormonal treatments, to minimally invasive procedures for certain conditions.

The important message is that help exists — and no one should feel they need to “just cope” with debilitating symptoms. Seeking advice is an important step in protecting long-term health and quality of life.

The Action

Book an appointment with your GP to give you clarity, support and a personalised plan — you don’t have to navigate this alone.
