Taxi and HGV
From £100
To obtain or renew your taxi or HGV license, a medical examination is required.
In order to do this, you will need a medical summary from your GP surgery. This summary can be requested as a printout from your surgery, which they are obliged to provide. Alternatively, you may be able to access this information via your online NHS GP records.
Our comprehensive medicals ensure you meet the necessary health standards, making the process smooth and efficient.
Sports Medicals
From £50
Sports consultations and fitness certificates are essential for various competitions, memberships, and events. These medicals ensure that you are in optimal health and capable of safely participating in your chosen activities.
Our assessments cover general health checks, cardiovascular fitness, and any specific requirements dictated by the sporting body or event organisers. If your sport or event requires additional tests, such as ECGs or stress tests, these can be arranged for an additional fee. We also provide necessary sign-off paperwork for tours or competitions, ensuring you are medically cleared to compete.
Education
From £50
For those working in the education sector, a medical certificate ensures they meet the health and fitness requirements to protect the safety and wellbeing of their students.
These tests can cover general mobility and upper limb function, as well as general checks on vision, hearing and speech.
There may be other tests that need to be undertaken, dependent on your specific role, and we would be happy to discuss these with you prior to booking a medical certification.
Travel
From £50
A medical certificate can prove to insurance providers or travel agencies that you are fit to travel, especially if you have specific conditions such as pneumonia, heart disease, or if you have recently had surgery.
This is particularly important as some airlines, if they have a specific concern about your medical condition, will ask for further proof that you are able to travel, and if your condition will impact other passengers in the case of an emergency.
Insurance
From £50
At AccessU, we understand how stressful it can be if you have to cancel a planned holiday due to ill health. In these cases, a medical certificate can be used to support an emergency cancellation.
These letters and certificates are accepted by airlines, travel insurance providers, hotel or accommodation providers, and holiday companies.
Offshore
From £135
Our OEUK-accredited Offshore Medicals are essential for individuals working in offshore environments such as oil rigs, wind farms, and maritime operations. These assessments ensure you are medically fit to work in remote and demanding conditions.
The examination includes a full medical history review, physical examination, urine test, BMI calculation, and other specific checks required by offshore regulatory standards. We provide official documentation confirming your fitness to work offshore, valid for up to two years.
Bideltoid Measurement
From £50
Bideltoid Measurements are required for individuals travelling offshore by helicopter. The measurements are completed by our certified professionals to assess the shoulder width of passengers to ensure they are seated in the correct place on board the helicopter, in case of emergencies.
Motorsport & Racing Driver Medicals
From £100
If you require a medical for a new licence or to renew an existing one, we are a Motorsport UK-approved race licence medical provider and will be able to help.
These appointments often include an ECG reading. If further investigation is required, including a stress ECG, ECHO, or stress ECHO, please get in touch, and we can discuss your requirements.
Medical certification FAQs
Why are medical certifications so important?
Medical certificates are important for many reasons, but the main ones are that they prove to employers that you are fit and medically able to perform any activities related to your role.
At the same time, medical certificates also mean you adhere to any specific regulations within your industry. For example, a taxi driver in the UK needs to obtain a medical certificate, and meet the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency’s (DVLA) Group 2 medical standards.
What professions require a medical certification?
There are a wide range of sectors that require you to have a medical certificate to prove you are fit to work, and these include, but aren’t limited to:
- Lone workers
- Teachers
- Confined space workers
- Taxi and HGV drivers
- Those working at heights
- Heavy machinery operators
- Heat workers
- Night workers
- Pilots
If you are unsure about whether you need a medical certificate, please contact a member of our team, who will be more than happy to help.
How long does the medical certification process take?
Often, we are able to issue a medical certificate on the same day as the appointment, however if there is any further investigation that needs to be done, or you fail and start the appeal process, this will take longer.
How much does a medical certification cost?
Costs can vary depending on what sector you work in, but the AccessU pricing starts at £50. If you need further information or clarification, simply reach out to us and we will be happy to advise.
Do I need health insurance to get a medical certificate?
No, you do not need health insurance to get a medical certificate. You will however have to provide certain documents and information to be able to get the certificate sent out to you.
What happens if I fail a medical certification?
The outcome can differ depending on the industry, but typically if you fail a medical certificate, you will have the opportunity to appeal to the decision. Depending on the sector, this appeal can take several weeks or even months.
How long does a medical certificate last?
Much the same as if you fail a medical certificate, this depends on the type of medical certificate you get. For example, a Class 1 aviation certificate lasts for 12 months, unless you are 40 or over and carry out single pilot commercial air transport operations carrying passengers or you are over 60, in which case it is six months.
In contrast, a medical certificate for a taxi driver in the UK is valid for five years, until the driver in question turns 60. It then must be renewed every year after.
